Wild Life

The two major wild life c=sanctuaries of Kerala Muthanga and Tholpetty Sanctuaries is in Wayanad. The place is rich with the flora and fauna and has got endangered species and is considered as one of the envelope of the last surviving tracts of a unique eco system.

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary

The wild life sanctuary is under the Nilgiris biosphere and is 18 km east of Sulthan Bathery and the rainforest is well connected to the Karnataka Bandipur National park and Tamilnadu Muthumala Sanctuary. The site is declared as Project Elephant site and is family of varied floara and Fauna.The animal species that include are the Leopards, Gaur, Sambar, Cheetal, Barking Deer, Hanuman Langur, Slender Loris.

Tholpetti Wildlife Sanctuary

The wild life sanctuary resembles closely with the Muthanga and is situated 25 kilometer away from Mananthavady. This wild life borders with another marvelous place coorg Karnataka making it easier for tourists to see and enjoy.There are many endangered species in Tholpetti also.

Pazhassi Raja’s Tomb

Pazhassi Raja, the Lion of Kerala, waged warfare against the British in the Wayanad hills. He resorted to guerrilla warfare against the British forces. He died a ferocious encounter that took place at Mavilanthode in 1805. Pazhassi’s tomb marks the point where he was cremated.
